Temperance: Sagittarius’s Ruling Card

Sagittarius’s ruling tarot card is Temperance, the Major Arcana card of balance, patience, and blending. The pairing comes from the Golden Dawn correspondences, and it looks like a mismatch at first: the zodiac’s most restless fire sign, ruled by an angel calmly pouring water between two cups. It holds up on a second look. Sagittarius is the archer, and archery is temperance in action, tension and release held in exact proportion, aim sustained long enough for the arrow to mean something. The card also shows a path winding toward distant mountains, one of the few images in the deck that pictures the road ahead, and a far-off destination reached by steady travel is about the most Sagittarian scene tarot has to offer.

When Temperance appears in your own spread as a Sagittarius, treat it as your significator first and a message second. It usually surfaces the lesson your sign spends a lifetime learning: enthusiasm is a fuel, and it still needs proportion. Their gift is real capacity; their discipline is putting part of the bundle down before the finish line, so they cross it upright.
